Companies that upgraded from SQL Server 2000 or 2005 to SQL Server 2008, managed to increase their return on investment (ROI) substantially, according to a report by Forrester Consulting. The finding indicates that upgrading to Microsoft's SQL Server 2008 delivered an anticipated ROI of between 162% and 181%.

Forrester: 84% of Organizations Use SQL Server

84% of the organizations surveyed by Forrester use Microsoft's SQL server as their database management system, according to the research company's DBMS Survey for 2008. 76% of the institutions said they were using Oracle's DBMS, while another 56% indicated they make use of IBM's DB2.
